Canasta

Calling Canasta enthusiasts… and complete beginners!

High Street

Description

Join us in a weekly game on Monday afternoons. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just learning the ropes, there’s a seat at our table for everyone. Experience the fun of connecting with others over a classic card game. Canasta’s popularity lies in its blend of strategy, teamwork and a bit of luck. Canasta, a popular Rummy-type card game played worldwide, has an interesting history with roots in South America. Particularly in Uraguay where, in the late 1930s, a group of friends began playing it in Montevido. The name Canasta means ‘basket’ in Spanish, reflecting the distinctive feature of collecting cards into melds or “baskets.” Gold coin donation.
